Director of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory addresses the US House Committee on Science, Space and Technology

PERSIS DRELL, DIRECTOR, SLAC NATIONAL ACCELERATOR LABORATORY, in front of the US HOUSE COMMITTEE ON SCIENCE, SPACE AND TECHNOLOGY, SUBCOMMITTEE ON ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT, HEARING ON ENERGY DEPARTMENT USER FACILITIES, June 21, 2012, said:

“with this new X-ray source, a billion times brighter than anyone has had before — the biggest scientific surprises are yet to come.” .. and .. “the LCLS is unique in the world in its ability to deliver these ultra-fast, ultra-bright X-rays, but there is significant worldwide competition coming, as Japan, Germany, China, and Switzerland are all moving to catch up, particularly now that we’ve demonstrated that this works”.
